What happens when Congress hits rock bottom?
We can either complain about its failures for another 1.5 years, or take back our voice right now and save the republic. Here's how.
Congress has forfeited its role as a co-equal branch of government. The very institution we trust to safeguard our freedoms and rights is willingly giving up its role, allowing the executive branch to run wild and unchecked.
Checks and balances aren't about politics or policy differences. They exist to ensure each branch of our government respects its constitutional boundaries — whether they agree on most things or not! It doesn't matter if the executive and legislative branches share the same party—what matters is that Congress holds the executive accountable. But today's Congress isn't doing its job; instead, it's rolling over for a strongman.
Here's the clear and present danger:
Congressional Authority Ignored: Over $436 billion approved by Congress remains unspent by the Trump administration—funds intended for diplomacy, infrastructure, and vital public projects. This isn't fiscal responsibility; it's an unconstitutional power grab.
Laws Trampled by Executive Fiat: Whether data privacy, due process, immigration, or just about anything else, the law is being disregarded through sweeping executive orders. This undermines Congressional authority and burdens ordinary Americans with unnecessary costs and environmental harm.
Erosion of Independent Oversight: Agencies created explicitly by Congress to protect Americans, like the Consumer Product Safety Commission, are being dismantled. Independent commissioners have been fired, and agencies are losing their autonomy, placing American safety and rights at severe risk.
Controversial and Reckless Confirmations: The Senate is confirming nominees they know are dangerously unfit, such as Kash Patel as FBI Director and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. as Health Secretary—both widely criticized yet confirmed to appease Trump's political base.
The issue here isn't about which party controls Congress or the White House. The issue is about a Congress that's intentionally abdicating its role as a co-equal branch of government, allowing the executive branch to seize unchecked power.
This is exactly why Bright America is committed to protecting our democracy through the courts.
